Taking Pride Into Healthcare, a discussion with Sasha Cohen, MSN, FNP-C, AAHIVS
A Meet #MoxieNurse Interview with Moxie Scrubs' Ethan Perkins, MSN, AGACNP-BC, CCRN
Looking for a healthcare provider is never easy, but for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer/questioning (LGBTQ) individuals, the search is especially challenging. For far too long, LGBTQ individuals have been virtually invisible in healthcare. This is especially true for transgender patients, whose medical needs are often ignored or denied. Faced with inadequate — and sometimes hostile — care, many LGBTQ patients are understandably reluctant to share their sexual orientation and gender identity, or even to seek care when they need it which dramatically impacts health outcomes. To learn more about how this impacts the health outcomes of an already marginalized community, check out our exclusive Moxie Interview with Sasha Cohen.
Sasha Cohen, MSN, FNP-C, AAHIVS (pronouns: they/he) is a primary care nurse practitioner specializing in gender-affirming care, HIV care/prevention and sexual health. His practice is grounded in a comprehensive, patient-centered approach, which prioritizes engaging patients in their care by acknowledging their right to personal autonomy and authenticity in attaining optimal health outcomes. For Sasha, there is no greater professional or personal satisfaction than witnessing someone feel affirmed and empowered to take ownership over their health. Sasha feels extremely privileged to be a part of so many people’s journeys. Their passion and dedication shine through in this exclusive interview with Moxie Scrubs' Ethan Perkins.
Moxie Scrubs would like to sincerely thank Sasha Cohen for their time and extremely valuable insight into the healthcare challenges facing this already marginalized community. We cannot express how grateful we are for the opportunity to share and support the incredible impact Sasha is making in the lives of so many.
